Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that increases breast volume using silicone implants, or fat transfer (lipofilling). Mr. Guirgis Awad is highly renowned for his outstanding results of breast augmentation for his patients in Sheffield and surrounding regions at Kinvara private hospital. The surgery typically takes 45–60 minutes under general anaesthetic as a day case. Implants are placed either beneath the pectoral muscle (submuscular / Dual plane) or over the muscle (subglandular/ subfascial “Mr Awad’s preference when feasible), depending on patient’s anatomy and implant type. Recovery is approximately a couple of weeks for routine light activities and about 4–6 weeks before return to full strenuous activity.

What is Breast Enlargement (Breast Augmentation)?
Breast augmentation, also known as breast enlargement, is a surgical procedure where we use implants to increase the size of your breasts or restore volume that’s been lost. It can also help improve the shape and symmetry of your breasts.
Some of my patients choose this procedure to feel more proportionate, to feel more confident in their clothes, or simply because they want to enhance their natural curves. We use high-quality silicone implants, and together we’ll choose a size and shape that suits your body and your goals. Every decision is tailored to you.
Whether you are seeking moderate profile or high profile implants, round or tear drop, or looking for subtle enhancement versus a fuller contour, Dr. Awad will guide you through each option. His experience with implant breast augmentation in Sheffield and throughout Yorkshire ensures that your results reflect your unique anatomy and preferences.
What to Expect When You Have Breast Augmentation
If you’re considering surgery, you’ll first come in for a personal consultation with me in my clinic. This is where we’ll talk through your hopes, your questions, and your concerns. I’ll take time to explain everything clearly—from the types of implants available to the surgical technique I’d recommend for you.
The procedure itself is performed under general anaesthetic and usually takes about an hour. I prefer a small incision in the fold (less than a couple of inches). I respect the tissue and anatomy through my meticulous skilful approach, to maintain the important structural support of the breast tissue. I follow a 14-point plan to reduce any risk of even subclinical infection. I’ll place the implant either under the breast tissue or beneath the chest muscle—again, depending on what’s best for your body shape and your desired results (this is always decided and agreed upon between us before surgery). I follow a meticulous, layered closure of the wound. I do not put drains. You will go home on the same day once you feel well after the general anaesthesia. You will need to wear a post operative compression bra for two months.
You’ll have full support from my team every step of the way, and we’ll make sure you’re well looked after before, during, and after surgery. You will be seen for a wound check one and two weeks down the line (nurse led clinic overseen by myself). I will see you in clinic 1 month and a few months after surgery to monitor and advice about the recovery, drop and fluff process.
As a breast augmentation specialist plastic surgeon based in Sheffield, we take time to discuss every detail, including implant positioning, incision type and recovery expectations. This thorough approach helps patients from across Yorkshire feel confident that their breast augmentation surgery will be both safe and personalised.
What Are the Risks of Breast Enlargement Surgery?
As with any surgery, there are some potential risks involved with breast augmentation. In order to make these clear to all my patients in our consultation, I categorise these into wound healing problems, breast related risks, implant related risks, and general anaesthesia related risks;
Wound healing problems (these are extremely less likely as we refer to a short scar in the fold); wound infection, bleeding, poor scarring (instead of a fine scar it could be a lump scar “hypertrophic or keloid” or a broad scar), pain or altered sensation such as numbness and wound breakdown (opening up, with extrusion/rejection of suture material).
Breast related risks: haematoma (collection of blood), seroma (collection of fluid), altered sensitivity (numbness, pain or oversensitivity of the skin or nipples), breast feeding could be affected (however not every lady is able to breast feed even with no surgery), asymmetry (the breast should be nicely balanced and look symmetrical, however they would never be identical, as there is hardly any body who truly is owing to anatomical differences between the two sides of the human body).
Breast implant related risks: rupture (leaking), capsular contracture (tight encapsulation), displacement (up, down “bottom out”, laterally), double bubble or waterfall deformity, breast animation (if under the muscle), seeing or feeling the edges of the implant, rippling, BIA-ALCL (breast implant associated Anapaestic Large Cell Lymphoma “ a rare cancer of the capsule”, Breast implant illness (BII).
General anaesthesia related risks: DVT (deep venous thrombosis = clots in the veins of the leg)- PE (pulmonary embolism – lung clots)
Discussing potential risks openly is a cornerstone of my practice. As a senior experienced breast cosmetic surgeon, I provide clear guidance on how factors like implant choice, moderate or high profile selection and aftercare can influence long-term outcomes.
I’ll go over all these risks with you during your consultation so you’re fully informed and feel confident in your decision. The good news is, serious complications are rare, and I take every precaution to keep risks as low as possible.
Breast Augmentation Recovery
Recovery varies from person to person, but most women are up and about within a day or two. You’ll need to take it easy for the first week—no heavy lifting or strenuous activity—but many people are back to work within 7–10 days, depending on the nature of their job.
You might feel a little sore and swollen at first, but this usually settles quite quickly. I’ll give you clear instructions on how to look after yourself post-surgery, and I’ll see you for follow-up appointments to check everything’s healing nicely.
Patients in Sheffield and Yorkshire appreciate a comprehensive aftercare programme for implant breast augmentation. By tailoring advice to the type of implant, profile and placement used, I support a smoother recovery and longer-lasting results from breast augmentation surgery.
The final results will take a few months to fully settle, however you will notice the transformation quite soon after surgery. Most women tell me they feel more confident, more comfortable, and more themselves than ever before, in two to three months.
