Breast Augmentation / Enlargement

Breast Augmentation Surgery Sheffield

As a surgeon, one thing I’ve come to understand deeply is how closely your self-image can be tied to the way you feel in your own skin. For many women, the size and shape of their breasts play a big role in how confident and feminine they feel. When you’re happy with how you look, it can have a powerful effect on your overall wellbeing—boosting your confidence, lifting your mood, and helping you feel ready to live life to the full.

If you’ve been thinking about enhancing your figure or restoring what time, weight changes, or pregnancy may have altered, breast augmentation could be a positive step towards feeling like the best version of yourself.

Many patients from Sheffield and across Yorkshire choose Dr. Awad for their breast augmentation surgery because of his expertise, meticulous technique and compassionate care. As a leading breast enlargement surgeon, he offers bespoke implant breast augmentation solutions that prioritise natural proportion, safety and long-term satisfaction.

What is Breast Enlargement (Breast Augmentation)?

Breast augmentation, also known as breast enlargement, is a surgical procedure where we use implants to increase the size of your breasts or restore volume that’s been lost. It can also help improve the shape and symmetry of your breasts.

Some of my patients choose this procedure to feel more proportionate, to feel more confident in their clothes, or simply because they want to enhance their natural curves. We use high-quality silicone implants, and together we’ll choose a size and shape that suits your body and your goals. Every decision is tailored to you.

Whether you are seeking moderate profile or high profile implants, or looking for subtle enhancement versus a fuller contour, Dr. Awad will guide you through each option. His experience with implant breast augmentation in Sheffield and throughout Yorkshire ensures that your results reflect your unique anatomy and preferences.

What to Expect When You Have Breast Augmentation

If you’re considering surgery, you’ll first come in for a personal consultation with me. This is where we’ll talk through your hopes, your questions, and your concerns. I’ll take time to explain everything clearly—from the types of implants available to the surgical technique I’d recommend for you.

The procedure itself is performed under general anaesthetic and usually takes about an hour. Most women go home the same day. I’ll place the implant either under the breast tissue or beneath the chest muscle—again, depending on what’s best for your body shape and your desired results.

You’ll have full support from my team every step of the way, and we’ll make sure you’re well looked after before, during, and after surgery.

As a breast augmentation surgeon based in Sheffield, we take time to discuss every detail, including implant positioning, incision type and recovery expectations. This thorough approach helps patients from across Yorkshire feel confident that their breast augmentation surgery will be both safe and personalised.

What Are the Risks of Breast Enlargement Surgery?

As with any surgery, there are some risks involved with breast augmentation. These can include infection, bleeding, changes in nipple sensation, and capsular contracture, which is where scar tissue can form tightly around the implant.

Discussing potential risks openly is a cornerstone of my practice. As an experienced breast enlargement surgeon, I provide clear guidance on how factors like implant choice, moderate or high profile selection and aftercare can influence long-term outcomes.

I’ll go over all these risks with you during your consultation so you’re fully informed and feel confident in your decision. The good news is, serious complications are rare, and I take every precaution to keep risks as low as possible.

Breast Augmentation Recovery

Recovery varies from person to person, but most women are up and about within a day or two. You’ll need to take it easy for the first week—no heavy lifting or strenuous activity—but many people are back to work within 7–10 days, depending on the nature of their job.
You might feel a little sore and swollen at first, but this usually settles quite quickly. I’ll give you clear instructions on how to look after yourself post-surgery, and I’ll see you for follow-up appointments to check everything’s healing nicely.

Patients in Sheffield and Yorkshire appreciate a comprehensive aftercare programme for implant breast augmentation. By tailoring advice to the type of implant, profile and placement used, I support a smoother recovery and longer-lasting results from breast augmentation surgery.

The final results will take a few months to fully settle, but once they do, most women tell me they feel more confident, more comfortable, and more themselves than ever before.

Breast Augmentation & Implant Options

Implant Size

Implant sizes (volumes) are measured in cubic centimeters (CC) or in grams. It ranges from 100 to 800 cc. The ideal size is determined by the footprint of the breast, the band size, the quality /stretchability of the skin and the desired outcomes to be achieved. In general, a cup size could range from 100 to 200 cc. In a 38 band size lady, much more volume is required to enlarge the breast one cup size than in a 32 band size for instance. The final outcome is multifactorial, from patient related factors to surgical technique related factors. It is definitely not just “what size implant” that determines the outcome.

Implant Shape

Implants could be round or tear drop (anatomical). The choice of the beter one is very variable and tailored to each patient. It not the shape perse that dictates the outcome i.e. natural or fake look, but this is multifactorial.

Asymmetry

Implants can be adjusted to improve uneven breasts.

Implant positioning

Overs or unders? Over the pectoralis major muscle or under it. When it is under the pec muscle, it is called a dual plane. This is because we raise the breast tissue, at least until we reach the lower edge of the muscle, before partially detaching the muscle from the rib inferiorly and raising it. There are some variations of this dual plane technique. ). In our practice, placing the implant over the muscle usually gives a more natural look, as long as there is enough breast tissue and fat to cover the edges of the implant.

Saline or Silicone

A saline implant is a safe, adjustable implant filled with sterile saltwater. Whereas a silicone implant is popular choice for a more natural feel and look.

Type of incision

Incision could be in the fold under the breast, through an incision around the areaola or axillary (armpit). However, I adopt the incision in the fold, as it tends to give the least visible scar, as opposed to the one around the areola, whilst allowing for a better control and adjustment of the fold (a fundumental anatomical area in the final shape of the breast). The scar measures a couple of inches or less.

Types of Stitches/Sutures

Dissolvable stitches or removable sutures, depending on the incision type.

Implant profile

Implant profile indicates the projection of the implant when you look at it from the side. It can be moderate, moderate plus, high or ultra high. The choice is patient dependent. It relies on the the discssion with my patients, after examining them, regarding what would work beter to achieve their goals of this procedure. Moderate plus profiles tend to produce more natural look, while high profile gives more prononced look. However, someties the high profile are better to achieve a more appealing results in certain circumstances.

What To Expect

If you’re considering breast augmentation, knowing what to expect can help ease any concerns. Here’s a step-by-step guide to the process from consultation to recovery.

Here’s a breakdown of the procedure

1. The consultation

You’ll have a one-on-one discussion with Dr. Guirgis Awad to talk through your goals, implant options, and expectations. We’ll also take measurements and discuss your medical history to ensure the best approach for you.

2. Leading up to the procedure

You may be advised to avoid certain medications and smoking to optimise healing. We’ll provide a full pre-surgery checklist.

3. On the day

The procedure is performed under general anaesthetic as a day case (in and out on the same day). It typically takes 1.5 to 2 hours, and you’ll wake up in a recovery room with our specialist team looking after you. We also utilise long acting local anaesthesia, which gives excellent pain relief, along with the oral pain killers on discharge.

Dr. Awad is extremely gentle with the tissue and super meticulous with the haemostais (stopping any bleeding). More importantly, he washes the pocket with antibiotics and antiseptics, to help reduce the long term problems from the implants (such as capsular contacture), as well as the short term risk of infection (extremely uncommon in our practice).

Dr. Awad then closes the wounds with dissolving sutures and he applies skin glue on top, as an extra protective and water proof layer.

4. Treatment recovery

You may experience some swelling and discomfort, but pain relief will be provided. Most patients return to light activities within a few days, with a full recovery taking around 6-8 weeks.
