Depending on the degree of sagging, different incision patterns can be used, including periareolar (around the nipple), vertical (lollipop), or anchor-shaped incisions.
Sagging breasts are a natural part of ageing—something almost every woman will experience to some degree as time goes on. But it’s not just age that causes breasts to lose their youthful shape and firmness. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and significant weight loss can all lead to a loss of volume and skin elasticity, even in younger women.
Because breasts are such a powerful symbol of femininity and self-image, changes in their appearance can have a real impact on how you feel about yourself. For many of my patients, sagging breasts affect not only confidence but how they dress, how they feel in social situations, and even their enjoyment of everyday life. That’s why I’m here—to help restore what’s been lost and support you in feeling like yourself again.
Mastopexy, or breast lift surgery, is a procedure that lifts and reshapes the breasts to give them a firmer, more youthful appearance. It doesn’t increase the size of your breasts, but it can make them look fuller and perkier by repositioning them higher on the chest and tightening the surrounding skin.
During the procedure, I remove excess skin, reshape the breast tissue, and—if needed—reposition the nipples so they sit in a more natural, lifted position. Some women also choose to have implants added at the same time if they want more volume. We’ll talk all of that through during your consultation, and create a plan that suits your goals and body shape.
We’ll start with a one-on-one consultation, where I’ll take time to understand your concerns, explain your options clearly, and walk you through what the surgery involves. I’ll examine the shape, size, and position of your breasts, and together we’ll agree on the best approach to achieve the look you want.
The surgery is done under general anaesthetic and usually takes around 2–3 hours. Most of my patients go home the same day. The incisions and techniques I use will depend on the amount of lift needed and whether you’re combining the procedure with implants. Rest assured, I always aim to place scars in the most discreet locations possible.
As with any surgical procedure, there are some risks involved with mastopexy. These include infection, bleeding, changes in nipple sensation, delayed wound healing, and scarring. If implants are used, there are also risks associated with breast augmentation.
It’s very important to me that you feel fully informed and confident in your decision. During your consultation, I’ll talk through all potential risks and how we minimise them, so you know exactly what to expect.
Recovery is a gradual process, but most women find they’re feeling much better within a week. You’ll need to wear a supportive post-surgical bra to help with healing, and avoid any strenuous activity or heavy lifting for about 4–6 weeks.
You might experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort at first—this is completely normal and can be managed with pain relief. I’ll give you full aftercare instructions and schedule follow-up appointments to check everything’s healing as it should.
Over the following weeks and months, your breasts will settle into their new shape, and the scars will begin to fade. Many of my patients tell me the results are not just physical, but emotional too—helping them feel more confident, more comfortable, and more like themselves again.
Depending on the degree of sagging, different incision patterns can be used, including periareolar (around the nipple), vertical (lollipop), or anchor-shaped incisions.
The nipples are often lifted to a more youthful position to match the reshaped breasts. If desired, the size of the areolas can also be adjusted
If you’d like additional volume, a breast augmentation (implants) can be combined with a mastopexy for enhanced shape and fullness.
Many women have naturally uneven breasts, and adjustments can be made to create a more symmetrical appearance.
Some patients opt for fat grafting, where fat from another area of the body is used to add natural volume and improve contouring.
Excess skin is removed, and internal sutures are placed to support the newly lifted breast shape.

If you’re considering a breast lift, knowing what to expect can help you feel more prepared. Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of the process from consultation to recovery.
During your consultation, Dr. Guirgis Awad will assess your breast shape, skin elasticity, and overall goals. He will discuss the best surgical approach to achieve your desired outcome.
You may need to stop certain medications, quit smoking, and follow a pre-surgery checklist to optimise healing and results.
The surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and usually takes 2-3 hours. Once complete, you’ll be monitored in the recovery area before being discharged or staying overnight if necessary.
Some swelling and discomfort are expected initially, but pain relief and a post-surgical bra will support your recovery. Most patients return to light activities within a few days, with full healing taking around 6-8 weeks.
Thinking about a breast lift? Here are some frequently asked questions to help guide your decision.
A mastopexy reshapes and lifts the breasts but does not significantly change their size. If you desire more volume, implants can be added, or fat transfer can be used for a natural enhancement.
While the results of a breast lift are long-lasting, natural ageing, weight fluctuations, and pregnancy can still affect the shape over time.
Many women can still breastfeed after a mastopexy, but there is a small risk that milk ducts may be affected, depending on the technique used.
Yes, but the scars will fade over time. Dr. Awad carefully places incisions to be as discreet as possible, and scar management treatments can help reduce their appearance.
Gentle walking is encouraged soon after surgery, but strenuous activity and heavy lifting should be avoided for at least 6 weeks to allow proper healing.
If your breasts have lost shape and firmness, or if your nipples sit lower than the breast crease, a lift may be the best solution to restore a youthful contour.
